The technology behind the screen is a $40 Wii controller (and of course an expensive projector)

A Color Box is an 8 foot cubed room. From a distance, one sees a box of light changing colors. Upon entering the room, a grid of color on the wall beckons to be touched with an Infrared LED pen, a wand that when touched to the grid, changes the color of the room to match that color.

He received the Wii controller in the mail and set up this demonstration in the garage at the Haiku Art House.

Dreamtime is a conceptual and experiential art theme camp for People
Who Dream and Lucid Dreamers to come and sleep and dream in our deluxe
yurt.  Seven Dreamers can sleep in comfort and go to Source and
receive dreams to solve practical problems in the waking state or deal
with issues sent to the light by dreaming.  We ask that Dreams be
shared in the DREAM CONTINUUM Dream Journal for all of us to share as
we approach 2012.
Hareesh is gifting DREAMTIME with Omaloha music to enhance dreaming.
Chris L is gifting us with a 16′ diameter yurt with soundproofing for
enhanced dreaming.
Sasha, Ellen, Jessica, Jade and Chris are designing and fabricating a
deluxe interior for Source Dreamers to enjoy.  Any volunteers would be
welcome to collaborate and fabricate this space.
There are 4 aspects to Dreamtime according to Aborigine culture.
1- The beginning of All Things
2-  The Life and Influence of the Ancestors
3-  The Way of Life and Death
4-  Sources of Power in Life
Dreamtime includes all these 4 facets at the same time- being a
condition beyond Time and Space as known in everyday life.  Aborigines
call it the “All At Once Time” instead of “One thing after another
time”.  It enables them to connect to their ancestors, to nature, and
to their own personal meaning and place within the scheme of things.
The individual who enters Dreamtime feels no separation between
themselves and their ancestors.  The strengths and resources of the
TIMELESS enters into what is needed in the life of the present.  The
future is less uncertain because the person feels their life is a
CONTINUUM linking past and future in unbroken connection.  Limitations
of time and space are overcome.   IT IS A RETURN TO SOURCE.
This is our artistic prayer for all and our gift to Source this year
and as a Dream Camp for future Source events.

8' x 8' template for Temple Mandala by Tessa Winiarski

The temple for Source this year is inspired by the interconnectedness of the universe. The walls and rooftop will be woven with geometric and web-like designs. This woven material brings forth a tactile aspect to the sacred space. Although the temple will not be burnt this year we are going to encourage the use of the space for release, reverence and creativity.
By being creators we activate the god inside ourselves. Ribbon, string, and yarn will be provided along with paper and pens so that those who are inspired can add onto the woven walls with either the materials provided, or by natural elements like leaves and flowers.
On the floor of the temple will exhibit a painted mandala. According to mandala mediator David Fontana, the mandala’s symbolic nature can help one “to access progressively deeper levels of the unconscious, ultimately assisting the mediator to experience a mystical sense of oneness with the ultimate unity from which the cosmos in all its manifold forms arises.” The imagery within the mandala represents the coming of a new era. A dawning sun over the horizon spills over the edge of it’s container washing away the fish below representing leaving the age of Pisces.
In the center of the mandala is the ancient Vedic symbol called the Sri Yantra, it represents the timeless creative principle of the universe and the continuous unfoldment of all realms of creation from the central source. The central point, called bindu, represents transcendental unity and the source of creation.  The opposing sets of triangles represent the divine masculine and feminine principles which form creation, themselves being recognized as expressions of the polarity inherent in the creative force of the bindu.
Through out the mandala are many symbolic images that the viewer can walk, on lay on, pray or play on. The space is intended to evoke the sacred, yet also be a open location where those who are with in it are free to create there own experience. There is no central alter space within this temple, which I hope will reflect to those within it that they themselves are the sacred objects within this divine existence.

SOURCE arts has awarded the first of 5 art grants for this years festival to Mavis Muller. Mavis was a core art contributor for last years festival creating the Whale Tail that has been heavily documented.

Her complete proposal is included below to provide those of you applying for a grant with a template of succesful proposal. The deadline for submission is February 3, 2009.

Greetings Source,

My name is Mavis Muller, I am a visiting artist from Homer, Alaska
here to participate with Source. My roundtrip airfare is covered by a
grant from the Alaska State Council on the Arts.

I was a participant with Source last year with a grant from the Black
Rock Arts Foundation to continue with a project that I started called
the Burning Basket Project which I began in 2004.

I created Fluke – Burning Basket of Safe Passage, which was a woven
whale tail representing the connection between Alaska and Hawaii by
way of the Pacific ocean and the migrating whales and shorebirds. It
was interactive, and met it’s conclusion through fire. This was the
12th in the series.

This year, again, I plan to create a 8′ outdoor sculpture of an
intricately woven basket using natural materials that I have gathered
locally such as; mulberry and hibiscus branches, tall grass, and palm.
(Sketches and photos included.)

This sculpture will be given as a gift to the community of those
attending the festival. It will be interactive for people of all ages.

All are invited to decorate the outside of the basket with natural
embellishments, flowers, and written sentiments of inspiration.
Personal sentiments may be tucked inside in the theme of releasing as
this sculpture will be burned, releasing all the heartfelt sentiments
in the sparks, flames, and smoke.

I plan to create a 15 minute DVD documenting this art project that can
be used in future lectures, for networking, and as gifts. I will
dedicate a page on my website, mavismullerart.com, with a link to
Source.

This woven sculpture will be the 15th in a series of burning basket
enactments in different communities in Alaska, Oregon, California,
Hawaii, and upcoming New Mexico.

Many, many cultures use the heart as a symbol of the CENTER OF LIFE,

To the Aztecs, Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Jews, Celts, Taoists, the
heart represents TOGETHERNESS, LOVE, UNITY, SALVATION, CONSCIENCE,
GODDESS LOVE, and PEACE.

In Christianity a heart is shining with the heavenly light that is the
LOVE of GOD.

In African Voo Doo it represents Erzuli, “spirit” of LOVE. BEAUTY, PURITY.

In Tarot, a burning heart symbolizes LOVE, KNOWLEDGE, LIFE FROM WATER,
FERTILITY, FORTUNE and JOY .

“With love the heart has wings.” Sufi motto.

W I N G S

Often associated with birds and angels, wings represent SPEED,
ELEVATION, FREEDOM of SPIRIT, ASPIRATIONS.

Wings carry an element of MAGIC, ALCHEMY, and TRANSFORMATION, as with
the fairies, dragons, and winged horses.

Military interpretation of wings is VALOR, BRAVERY of highest order.

Harley Davidson riders wear wings to signify PRIDE & INDEPENDENCE.

H E A R T W I T H W I N G S

With unbounded freedom, the wings on a heart are reaching upward, to a
lofty height, carrying love, and dispensing love with each wing beat.

The flaming heart with wings lifts and scatters our gratitude for the
beauty that surrounds us, the blessings in our lives, the bounty of
the earth,
and for the beauty of our life purpose. For all that is kindled and
stoked by the gift of love.

The greatest fire there is, is the fire of love.

May the memories of this fire keep us illuminated and connected.

The Facebook SOURCE Foundation page is developing into a pretty good resource. I hate to promote facebook but have to admit I find it an amazing resource. We’ve also got up your own personal invite page to this years SOURCE event.

We put up some video of Dick Nelson teaching his Color Class at ARTstorm that is well worth watching for anyone who loves color. ARTstorm was a free all day event at the Hui in Makawao, Maui  sponsored by SOURCE. We provided anyone who signed up with classes on sculpting stone, dancing with poi and staff, Adobe Photoshop, Corel Painter… and my favorite: Color.

Mavis Muller who made the Burning Whale Tail at last year’s SOURCE was gathering leaves for her project this year. I want you to be surprised, but don’t know if I can help spilling the beans… it’s not a whale tail.
