The Power of Art

This is an image from a project in New Orleans to revitalize the arts. As I move about the island and talk to people about the Maui art scene, the vast majority of them consider art the stuff in the galleries on front street and in the galleries in Paia and Makawao. I have no problem with fine art– I am a fine art painter myself. I am however very interested in the power of art to transform particularly when the creation is a collaboration.

This is alot of the reason I am involved with SOURCE. Not all of the art is interactive or requires a group to construct it, but much of it is. And when it does require that many hands get involved, and everyone is doing it not for money, but to share the experience of creation, it inherently creates bonds of community. And it is a ton-a-fun.

Art has a unique ability to bring us together in community.
